But if you're looking for a California road trip that’s scenic, uncrowded, and unexpected, Highway 395 is calling.

Stretching from Death Valley to Lake Tahoe, this route runs up the backside of the Sierra. Along the way, it passes some of the most jaw-dropping sights in the state—Mount Whitney, Mammoth Lakes, Mono Lake, Devil’s Postpile, and more.
